March 6 - 8:  Rotorua

Rotorua is New Zealand's most famous geothermal area.  We spent a couple of days here.  We toured the Maori Arts & Crafts Center, where we saw geysers and mud pools, as well as a demonstration of traditional Maori dancing and songs.  We also visited several of the local lakes, and had some excellent dinners in town.  Don't let anyone tell you that the food is boiled-British-style in NZ; it most definitely is not!  We had great food everywhere.

Our favorite sights in the Rotorua area were at the Waimangu Volcanic Valley, which has boiling lakes, blue lakes, mineral terraces, and hot streams of every psychedelic color.
