Kitchen Remodel 2005: New Dining Set and Wall Unit

In late July, once the kitchen was substantially done, we took delivery on our new dining set and living room wall unit entertainment center. It will be some time before they're in a "finished" setting, but first, we roughed in the wall unit and the dining set. This is by Borkholder, crafted in solid cherry. As usual, nothing ever goes quite according to plan. Stereo gear (excuse me - Home Theater gear) ain't getting any smaller. Although our Yamaha would fit in one of the wall unit towers, we wouldn't be able to plug anything into it. So some surgery on one of the towers would be necessary. This will require a few things. A big rectangular hole in the back. A frame of some sort to finish the hole and support the rear of the tower (it's just lapped). And various other holes for other gear and air. Most of this was done the first week of August, when the average high temperature at home was about 95. The project turned out pretty well. We bought some 1" by 1.5" cherry stock from a wood shop and with the help of my neighbor, cut a rabbet joint out of it. After a number of 45 degree cuts, we basically made an inverted picture frame. The tower is set down, the hole is... Andy checks to make sure that the frame... Fits great! From the back, anyway - not... Up on its feet, then a good cleaning.... Some shimming and swearing later, with... Close-up... With the Yamaha roughed in, from the... ...and from the back.... Some additional holes for the DVD which... Almost all wired up and ready to install... Towers placed, shelf installed with a... Finally, all in place. The center...
