The "continuity plate" was removed along with the I-beam. After hours and hours of grinding, the scars left from erasing their existence. This looks pretty scary, but using auto-body repair techniques and painting it dark charcoal grey (to match the siding) should make this all disappear. Remember that this part of the frame (the center vertical and all four horizontals) are visible inside and out.
